A dazzling display of eight unique holiday trees: past, present, and futureDon't miss out on this lovely and educational exhibit at The
Mattaei Botanical Gardens. Here are a few pieces from the event:
Early American Christmas TreeThis
holiday tree is a great example of the earliest American Christmas tree with traditional, hand crafted ornaments that were exclusive to this period in American History.
Modern Holiday FlareThis is one of the smaller trees in the gardens, yet it certainly draws quite a bit of attention. Both the holiday ornaments and the tree are simple and understated, yet a 60's classic in terms of American Tradition.
The Poinsettia TreeThis tree was attracting the most attention, while I was at the exhibit. It's the perfect spot to pause with family and take a few holiday photographs.
Ecological Holiday Art - A Wave of The FutureBack in the cactus and succulent greenhouse, you could find a contemporary and futuristic twist on holiday art. With the interest in self-sustained art in our area, this was a very exciting and innovative part of the exhibit.
Frosty the "Ecologically Friendly" Snowman
Made entirely by plastic cups and bottle caps, this snowman brought a lot of smiles to faces of children during the event.
Recycled Holiday OrnamentsThis was just one of many unique and highly creative holiday ornaments that were created by everyday household items. This delightful penguin was created by using a simple
light bulb, some paint and quite a bit of imagination!
A Futuristic Christmas TreeAt first glance this may look like an ornamental tree found in your favorite Science Fiction film. However, this is a simple holiday tree created by discarded
CD's that are becoming less and less relevant with the
Internet era.
This Holiday Exhibit is open through New Year's Eve. Closed Christmas Eve and Christmas day, and New Year's day. Free admission Wednesdays noon-8 p.m.
